Having beautiful skin not only makes us look great, it makes us feel great too. If you’re unhappy with the way your skin looks there are simple things you can do to improve it. Follow these tips to have healthy, great looking skin throughout the new year.
Avoid Sugar
The more sugar in your diet, the worse your face will look. Foods that are high in sugar can add years to your face and wipe out your skin’s elasticity. Sugar is also bad for your teeth and your digestive system. If you find yourself craving sugar, try something that’s full of natural sweetness like fruits and vegetables.
Stay Hydrated
Water is one of the most important skin care ingredients there is. When your skin becomes dehydrated it can appear dull and flaky. If water isn’t your thing, try replacing one glass of coffee, tea, or juice a day with a tall glass of water. After a while you’ll start to love it and forgo the other beverages altogether.
Don’t Forget the Sunscreen
The sun’s harmful rays can wreak havoc on your skin. Besides causing skin cancer, the sun’s rays will speed up your skin’s aging process and make you look older. Do not forget the sunscreen when you leave the house, even in the winter. Make sunscreen application part of your morning beauty routine and ensure that your face is covered by SPF 15 or higher.
Exercise Regularly
When your blood isn’t flowing properly, it can’t bring oxygen and nutrients to your cells or rid your body of toxins like free radicals. When our body can’t get rid of free radicals, the aging process is sped up. The best way to get your blood flowing is through regular exercise. Whether it’s cardio and weight lifting or spinning and yoga, the more active you are, the better your skin will look.
Take Your Makeup off Before Bed and Wash Your Brushes
At the end of the day, remove your makeup. Even if you use hypoallergenic products made with natural ingredients, you shouldn’t go to bed with a full face of makeup. Cosmetics, when left on too long, can allow oil and dirt to build up on your face and cause pimples. Also, wash your makeup brushes once a week with baby shampoo and lukewarm water to ensure that any oil and dirt that’s built up on them is removed.
Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
This is one of the most important things you can do for your skin. It can take up to 28 days for our skin to replenish itself once we’re over the age of 30. During those 28 days, your skin’s cells can dry out, making you look tired, older and even unhealthy. Use an exfoliant twice a week to give your skin a much needed boost as it takes its time to replenish itself.
