How Long Does It Take To Recover From Non-Invasive Body Contouring?

A common concern for many cosmetic surgery patients involve areas of unwanted, stubborn areas of fat that are difficult to get rid of with diet and exercise alone. Whether you are hoping to re-contour your body after pregnancy, experience bulges of fat along your back and sides, or pincheable areas around your thighs, localized areas of fat can be hard to get rid of permanently.

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed all around the world is liposuction– and for good reason. This cosmetic surgery can safely, effectively, and permanently remove sebaceous fat and re-define the contours of your body. Though liposuction is an effective method to remove stubborn areas of fat, it involves incisions and a period of time to recover, which some individuals may not be able to afford.

In recent years, non-invasive body contouring procedures have surged in popularity because they require almost zero downtime and provides excellent results. These treatments do not require anesthesia or incisions, and the vast majority of patients are able to return to their day to day activities almost immediately.

How Do Non-Invasive Body Contouring Procedures Work?

There are many fat reducing body contouring treatments available on the market today, and each uses different modalities to specifically target and eliminate stubborn fat deposits through a topical procedure, as opposed to a surgical one. Popular non-invasive body contouring procedures include the following:

CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting is the most ideal for candidates who are close to or at their ideal weight but would like to reduce small, localized areas of fat on their stomach, arms, hips, or thighs. Using a process called cryolipolysis, a device is used to freeze unwanted fat cells to the point of death without harming surrounding skin, tissue, or muscle. Once they are frozen, the fat cells are flushed from the body and naturally eliminated within days and weeks after the procedure. Your final results will usually be noticeable within 1 to 3 months, and your body will continue flushing out the cells for up to 6 months. Repeated treatments can help achieve and maintain optimal results.

truSculpt. truSculpt works very similarly to that of CoolSculpting but uses controlled radiofrequency technology to get rid of stubborn fat deposits on the stomach, hips, thighs, back, and buttocks. The treatment process usually takes approximately one hour and a series of two treatments is usually required to achieve both noticeable and optimal results.

Zerona. Zerona is slightly different than the previously mentioned methods of non-invasive fat removal because the results are usually noticeable within several weeks or even less! The cold laser targets sebaceous fat cells that cause the storage form of fat to expel from the cell. Then, the body will naturally flush out and get eliminated from the body, which results in the shrinkage of the fat cell itself.

These treatments are recommended and would provide the best results to patients who are close to or at their ideal weight, but would like to reduce localized fat in troublesome areas that are difficult to eliminate with diet and exercise. Patients should be realistic about their expectations in that they should expect no more than a 25% reduction of fat in the treatment areas. It is also important to note that non-invasive body contouring treatments will not provide you with the benefits of skin contracture, which occurs with traditional means of fat removal such as liposuction.

Non-Invasive Body Contouring Recovery

One of the reasons why fat freezing and other forms of non-invasive body contouring procedures have surged in popularity is because there is zero downtime associated with the procedure. Often times, our patients are able to return to the usual hustle and bustle of their day to day lives immediately following their session. For a few weeks after your procedure, you may experience slight numbness in the treatment area while the fat is in the process of being eliminated. It is also normal to experience bruising in the treatment area, as well as some tenderness and redness that will resolve on its own.
