What It Is

Xeomin is one of the most popular cosmetic injections available on the market. Producing results similar to Botox, it is unique in that a very fine needle injects a substance that is directed at the facial muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles and lines. It typically lasts longer in the skin when compared to Botox and does not produce a sensation of heaviness at the injection site the way Botox normally does post-injection. These dynamic lines are the result of repeated muscle contractions by facial expressions such as squinting, frowning, and smiling. Xeomin is made from a highly diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, which has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for safe cosmetic usage.

How It Works

Xeomin requires no anesthesia administration and is directly injected into the specific facial muscle responsible for creating lines and wrinkles in the complexion. Many patients experience mild pain and discomfort during administration, as a tiny needle is used during the process. Xeomin works to temporarily block the nerve signals sent to the facial muscles, which limits the mobility of the muscle under the skin. This results in a smoother, softened appearance.

How long does the procedure last?

The results from your Xeomin injections can last anywhere between 3 to 4 months before having to repeat the procedure, although this can vary from patient to patient depending on the depth of the treated wrinkle as well as how quickly their body metabolizes the substance. Muscle movement will gradually return to the treatment site and the lines and wrinkles will begin to be more noticeable and apparent until they are treated again. The reappearance of lines and wrinkles previously treated by Xeomin tend to appear less deep as the muscles are being trained to relax, which can offer improvement on a long term basis.
