How to Stop Excessive Sweating

It’s an unwanted phenomenon that can add discomfort to our daily lives – or in extreme cases even make us too embarrassed to join social situations.

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a common problem that will cause you to sweat more than a normal amount, usually in your palms, armpits and the soles of your feet, and sometimes even your face.

For many people, hyperhidrosis can have a big impact on their life in a very negative way. Between feeling that people are always looking at your sweat and not being able to get comfortable in your own clothes- The Social stigma that comes along with excessive sweating can cause you to be terribly self-conscious.

If you’re one of the millions of people suffering from excessive sweating, there are options available to you! Here at Fairview, we can help with a procedure that uses Botox injections. These injections will prevent the release of the chemical that causes the glands to sweat, preventing the problem before it starts.

There are also some lifestyle and behavioural changes that can reduce sweating. These include:

    • Double-up on your antiperspirant times

Applying antiperspirant in the afternoon, as well as earlier in the morning. The effect of putting on antiperspirant in the afternoon will last through the night and even into the next morning. This is because our bodies produce less sweat at night, which gives the antiperspirant better odds of getting into your pores and blocking sweating the following morning.

    • Try extra-strength

Drug stores offer extra-strength antiperspirants in addition to the normal kind. These contain a higher concentration of active ingredients, and are available without a prescription.

    • Cross spicy foods off the menu and avoid caffeine

This is a connection that not many people know about – the link between sweating and the food we eat. A large amount of caffeine can stimulate certain neurotransmitters in your brain, as can hot and spicy foods. These neurotransmitters can in turn also trigger sweat glands – so try avoiding high doses of caffeine and extra-hot burritos!
