Microdermabrasion in Toronto

How Microdermabrasion Works For Your Skin

Microdermabrasion works by exfoliating old, dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin. By removing the old skin, you give new skin the chance to come to the surface without some of the fine lines and scars. The procedure is very gentle, and sprays the exfoliant lightly across the face. Compared to other skin removal procedures, this one is relatively painless with short healing periods.

How does microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion relies on manually scrubbing away the old skin, whereas a chemical peel uses chemicals to loosen up the top layers. Microdermabrasion moves tiny crystals very quickly across the surface of the skin. The tiny crystals can be made from Aluminum Oxide. The fast moving crystals peel back subsequent layers of old cells.

Once the new cells are exposed, you get an even layer of fresh skin with fewer traces of wrinkles and scars. This new skin will heal tightly over the face for a taut, and even complexion. Even though skin grows, the benefits of microdermabrasion are long term. Clogged pores will now be cleaned out. To keep them clean, wash them daily and seal with astringent. This will also reduce the size of the pore.

Microdermabrasion does not require anaesthetic, unlike Dermabrasion. In addition, recovery is very quick. Furthermore, it is suitable for use on clients with a darker skin tone.

What To Expect After The Procedure

Your skin will be slightly pink and tender for the first day. Complete healing will finish by the seventh to tenth day afterwards. You can resume normal activities by the second week. In order to prevent discolouration, you will need to restrict exposure to the sun. Wear a hat and sunscreen of SPF 30 or more.

Some side effects include accidental exposure of the eyes to the crystals. If that is the case, your practitioner will take steps to remedy the issue. If in doubt, feel free to draw attention to concerns about the eyes that you have.

After the procedure, any creams will be more effective. Creams with active ingredients can easily make its way down, deep into the skin. Not only do you gain a fresher, youthful appearance with even skin tone, your skin care products and topical medications will be able to work more effectively. For very deep issues with the skin, microdermabrasion will be as effective.
