For many women, cellulite causes more stress, anxiety and embarrassment than almost anything else. Cellulite can dictate the type of clothes you buy, the places you go and cause a good deal of depression in the process. Up to 90 percent of the western female population over 20 years of age has some degree of cellulite, but despite the huge effect it will never be accepted.
Basically, when fat cells in the adipose layer of the hypodermis get bigger, the connective tissue within that layer hardens and the dermis layer of the skin weakens, you have a great recipe for the dimpling appearance of cellulite. You’ll discover lots of ‘miracle solutions’ if you look hard enough, but these will reduce the size of your bank account more than anything else.
You’re not likely to find a permanent solution for cellulite, but if diet and exercise alone aren’t giving you the results you want, here are some treatments that will help:
RF TriPollar
This treatment is the one we currently use at Fairview Laser Clinic, and it consists of a machine that provides a deep tissue massage to the affected area. This action works to break apart the bands of cellulite under the skin for a smoother appearance. Typically, five to 10 treatments are required, based on the overall coverage and stubbornness of your cellulite.
Lower Body Lift
The lower body lift is a highly invasive surgical procedure, where sections of excess skin are removed and the skin that’s left behind is pulled up into a new position. With this treatment, scarring is inevitable, but it will significantly reduce the appearance of cellulite on the thighs and buttocks.
Fat Grafting
This treatment relies on your own fat to smooth out the dimples and depressions caused by cellulite. First, fat is taken from an area of your body through liposuction, then that same fat is injected into the cellulite areas to smooth out the look of the skin. While not as invasive as the lower body lift, the success of this treatment still depends on the skill and experience of your surgeon.
Other treatments such as acoustic wave therapy and laser lipo have also shown promise, but require more research before they become mainstream factors in the fight against cellulite. The search for that one, all-encompassing cellulite treatment will continue on until it is found, because until it is considered a “cure” there is still work to be done.
