3 Remedies To Get Rid Of Blackheads

Blackheads are common and annoying. They are not caused by dirt, so excessive scrubbing of your face will not get rid of them. In fact, such activities could cause more to appear when your pores become clogged with dead skin cells and excess sebum to form whiteheads, which then open, oxidise, and turn black to form blackheads.

So, even when using a remedy that requires rubbing, it is important that you don’t repeat it more than twice or thrice a week as the scrubbing could undo the good. With that in mind, here are some home remedies for blackheads:

  1. The egg white mask A mask of egg whites can be used to tighten pores (temporarily) to prevent them from forming blackheads, as well as to remove existing blackheads. Egg whites contain plenty of beneficial nutrients for the skin, plus they are less drying compared to some alternative home remedies. How to apply: Start by separating the yolk from the egg white. Dry your face by patting it gently, and then apply a thin film over your skin. Allow it some time to dry, and then apply the second layer. Repeat for three to five layers, making sure that each layer is completely dry between applications.
  2. Honey and milk pore strips Honey contains antibacterial properties, while the lactic acid in milk is known to make skin soft and supple. Combining the two can do wonders for your skin. How to apply: Mix one teaspoon of milk and one tablespoon of raw honey and heat in the microwave for five to ten seconds. Mix again, and when it cools to a comfortable temperature, apply a thin film over the blackheads. Then, pat a strip of dry cotton on it and give it about 20 minutes to dry before peeling it away. Rinse with cold water and finish by moisturising as usual.
  3. Cinnamon and honey strips Cinnamon improves blood circulation, allowing oxygenated blood to reach all areas of your skin for a smooth and healthy glow. Mix it with honey, which has antibacterial properties, and you can effectively eliminate blackheads. How to apply: Mix some honey and cinnamon together until you achieve a uniform mixture to cover the intended area. Apply a thin layer of the paste over blackheads and then gently press a strip of dry cotton over it. Peel the strip after three to five minutes and rinse your face. Remember to apply moisturiser.

Final note

As mentioned before, these remedies should only be used a couple of times a week to avoid dehydrating your skin excessively. During other times, consider rinsing your face with water twice a day to get rid of excess sebum and dead skin and keep the pores clear. Pat your face dry and don’t forget to apply moisturiser.
