As we age, the skin in our faces loses its elasticity. Our skin can sag and the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines become more prominent. Many people turn to face lifts, which are surgical procedures done to help restore the youthful contours of their faces. If you’re looking for an alternative to a full facelift, skin tightening may be the right procedure for you.

Exercising After A Skin-Tightening Procedure

What is skin tightening?

Skin tightening is a facial rejuvenation non-surgical procedure that uses an infrared light source (laser) to tighten your skin. The laser heats the collagen under the skin’s surface, which causes the skin to contract. When skin contracts it tightens, creating smoother skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and improving the skin’s laxity. For the most part, people require two to three treatments taking place three to six weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Besides tightening your skin, this procedure helps new collagen to grow in the treated areas and encourages more collagen to be absorbed from the surrounding areas. Collagen is a protein found in our skin, hair and nails that keeps us strong and healthy. As we grow older our bodies have trouble producing enough collagen, which is why skin-tightening procedures are so helpful. Skin tightening gives you body a boost in the production of collagen.

How long is the recovery process after skin tightening?

The size and location of the area that is being treated will determine how long your skin tightening session will last. For most people sessions range anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour. Because this procedure does not involve incisions there is no risk of bruising or bleeding. The recovery process for skin tightening is a very quick one. You may feel a warm sensation on your skin or see redness around the treated area. Some people experience minor swelling but all side effects of skin tightening tend to go away within a few hours.

How long after this procedure can you exercise?

With a skin-tightening procedure you can return to your normal activities right away. If you are not experiencing any of the aforementioned side effects (swelling, redness, warm sensation) you can exercise as soon as you feel up to it following your skin tightening session.
