Jessner’s Peel

What it is

The Jessner Peel is used to stimulate the production of new, younger looking skin by using a mixture of acids, including lactic acid, salicylic acid and Resorcinol, applied directly to the skin in order to remove the outermost layers. It has the ability to target skin pigmentation issues and even out the skin tone by reducing the appearance of acne scars, reducing age spots and dark patches, can treat melasma and hyperpigmentation, as well as smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. The Jessner’s Peel is safe and effective for all skin types and tones, including those with darker skin.

Areas Treated

Chemical peels are most commonly performed on the face and neck, but can also be applied to other areas of the skin that has uneven skin or pigmentation.

How It Works

The Jessner’s Peel is effective in the promotion of radiant, youthful looking skin because it works to remove the top layers of the skin. The depth and intensity of the peel can be adjusted according to your needs and you can choose to receive a superficial, medium, or deep chemical peel application.

The Jessner’s Peel is typically done as a medium-strength peel, meaning it will exfoliate skin cells from the top layers of the skin, which include the epidermis, and the outermost layer of the dermis. When applied as a superficial peel, you will experience faster healing time and recovery however will require additional sessions to get the same results of a deeper peel.

Results

After your Jessner’s Peel treatment, you may experience a burning or stinging sensation for 20 minutes or more, and the treatment area may be slightly red or swollen for the first 24 hours. This should resolve on its own and your skin will begin to peel. For many of our patients, it will take the skin between 1 to 2 days to fully recover before you see the full results of the treatment.

The Jessner’s Peel will help reduce acne as well as hyperpigmentation in the skin. Your fine lines and wrinkles will be smoothed out and the skin will have a youthful, radiant glow. The overall appearance of the complexion will be dramatically improved and textural irregularities, such as large pores, should be greatly reduced.

How long do the results last?

The results from the Jessner’s Peel completely depend on how deeply the skin was treated. A superficial application will provide you with faser healing time, but repetition of treatment will be necessary to achieve the same results as that of a deeper application. Generally, results may last for at least a year or more, and with the application of broad spectrum sunscreen and sun protection, your results may last even longer.

The results from the Jessner’s Peel treatment are not permanent, however. With time and increased sun exposure, your skin will naturally continue to age. New scars can be created with future acne breakouts and you may develop new hyperpigmentation spots. To maintain your results for as long as possible, ensure you wear sunscreen and protect yourself from sun exposure.
