Dealing with acne is never easy, especially when it is chronic. If you have had little success with treating your acne in the past, you may (or may not have) considered chemical peels as a potential solution. Here is everything you need to know about whether or not a chemical peel can clear acne.
Can A Chemical Peel Clear Acne?
First and foremost, there are a lot of chemical peel treatments of varying strengths to choose from, all of which are designed to treat a wide range of skin issues, from aging to hyperpigmentation.
When it comes to whether or not chemical peels can clear acne, the answer is absolutely yes. In fact, it is a highly effective way to do so. The great thing about chemical peels is that even a medium-strength chemical peel can deliver permanent results.
As you saw above, there are many different chemical peel treatments to choose from. A very effective chemical peel for acne, however, is the salicylic acid peel, particularly effective at treating chronic and/or recurrent acne. The reason why this type of peel is so effective is because salicylic acid has a very direct effect on the oil glands, which cause pimples.
PCA chemical peels also treat both acne and blemishes (and a number of other skin issues like uneven skin pigmentation, fine wrinkles and more). PCA chemical peels exfoliate, tighten and improve the texture of the skin. This type of chemical peel falls into the light to moderate category.
For more surface-level blemishes, another effective type of chemical peel is a mild TCA peel. This peel involves applying trichloroacetic acid to the skin, which exfoliates it and opens up blocked pores. It is particularly suited to darker skin types. In addition to treating blemishes, it also corrects pigmentation and smooths out fine lines and wrinkles.
Not only can chemical peel treatments clear acne, but there are also chemical peels that will treat acne scars and pigmentation. Note that chemical peels can also be used on active acne.
A consultation will help to determine which type of chemical peel will be best for you given your type of acne, type of skin, etc.
